Robert J. Bernhardt is a Founding Shareholder of Bernhardt and Strawser. He has developed a high volume effective debt collection service statewide. His vast knowledge of collections law; relationships with judges, court staff, and other attorneys; prompt reports; and timely remittances are hallmarks of his practice.
Mr. Bernhardt has practiced collections law since 1968, and has focused his practice exclusively in that area for over forty-five years. He has extensive experience handling all types of collections matters, including auto deficiency files; volume-based credit card accounts for major banks and credit card companies; services rendered and merchandise sold; promissory notes from various credit unions and banks; insurance premium and former agent salary advance accounts; and medical accounts.
Mr. Bernhardt is a draftsman of bills enacted by our state legislative to enhance creditor’s rights. He was one of the original founders of American Alliance of Creditor Attorneys (AACA). Mr. Bernhardt is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, 26th Judicial Bar Association, American Alliance of Creditor Attorneys (AACA), and Commercial Law League of America. In addition, Mr. Bernhardt has served as a councilor to The North Carolina State Bar and has worked with the North Carolina legislature to amend the North Carolina Rules of Civil Procedures.
Mr. Bernhardt was born in Ft. Knox, Kentucky and raised in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Finance and from The University of Michigan Law School with a law degree.
